A classic casino game that has been featured in Hollywood movies is Blackjack. This card game was features in the Ocean's Trilogy as well as the movie entitled "21" which is a story of 6 young adults who were good at the game and won millions in the sin city, Las Vegas. Blackjack is one of the oldest, simple yet exciting gambling card games. This has been played all over the world and is popular among traditional and even online casinos and gambling sites. The main objective of the game is to reach as close to the number 21 but not going over. There are a lot of versions of the game such as blackjack switch, multi-hand blackjack, Atlantic City blackjack, double exposure blackjack, European blackjack, high limit blackjack, Spanish blackjack and many others, but all of these versions still aim at arriving closest to the number 21.

Blackjack unlike other card games is played versus the dealer hence, other than arriving closest to 21 you also need to beat the dealer, which is good and gives you a better chance at winning because you need not get the exact 21 all the time, you just have to beat the dealer.

The game is simple and can be played with one, two, four, six or even eight card decks. Again the objective is to bet the dealer by arriving closest to the number 21 without going over. Before dealing the cards, the player places the bet. The dealer will give initially 2 cards and so on and that the value of the cards should be added. The sum should be nearest or equal to 21. It will be up to the player if he wishes to add another card to get closest to 21 or to just stand on what he already has.

Different suits in the cards have different values. The King, Queen and Jack are equal to 10 while the rest of the cards, ranging from 2-10 are at face value. Aces are valued otherwise. Depending on the hand played, the aces may be valued at 1 or 11. You have a hard hand when you do not have an Ace or when the Ace is being counted as 1 whereas, if you have an Ace valued at 11, then it becomes a soft hand.

Blackjack like other casino games, is still a game of luck. So the best possible strategy other than trusting your gut feeling is just to use the basic strategy. The skill of the game depends entirely on the choice of the player whether to stand on what he has or be dealt with another card.

Blackjack players are given options as to how to proceed with the game. They can choose to "hit" and ask for the dealer to add another card or "stand" if they are contented with what they have. Players can also choose to "split pairs" if and only if they are given pairs on the first round. Players also have the option to "double down" especially if they have the edge on the game, they can choose to double the original bet, and however, when they choose to double down, the dealer will only give them only one more card. Just in case the game started a bit edgy and unfortunate for the player, he can opt to "surrender" and give the cards back as well as forfeit half of the bet. In the even that the dealer has an ace and the player is given a blackjack, he may choose to call "even money", so the player will be paid out evenly 1:1 before the dealer gets to check on another card.
